// designing the objects
initially, we wanted the objects to have different shapes to represent the different emotions. we then decided to make them all spherical, for cohesion.

we researched on how color and texture/certain materials are related to the six basic emotions, and found several studies from which we drew conclusions:
• anger - red, rough (sandpaper)
• surprise - orange, concave (beads/gemstones)
• happiness - yellow, fluffy (fabric)
• fear - green, spiky (metal studs)
• sadness - blue, glassy (marbles)
• disgust - purple, slimey (clay)

afterwards, we designed the objects on a plastic spherical skeleton, which we spray painted and glued different materials on. we did this in the spray paint room and using the ceramic station for ventilation. we also used tools from the wood station to help us "sculpt" the plastic balls into the proper shape.

// designing the website
when brainstorming ideas for the website, we knew we wanted to make it simple and impactful. therefore, we decided to have a simple home page with camera input which, according to the object shown, would lead you to the correspondent emotion's page. that page would only feature a selection of clips extracted from the videos in the openimages database, with a matching background and no text.

being in charge of selecting the clips, i tried to strip them from the context of the original video (wherever applicable), to further abstractify them. afterwards, i gave them a slight color tint which matched the respective emotion (ie. red tint for anger). this led to cohesion and a sleek and uniform look among all clips, which were shot on different types of film and therefore had different tints.

we also decided to design some metal stands for the objects to sit on. being in charge of that, i asked the metal station for help and made the stands using a simple structure, out of one hoop and three legs. this was a fun process and i learned a bunch about the equipment in the metal station.
