// question eight
what is their relationship to the collection?
who are you designing for?
which content are you ‘interfacing’?
how does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
what type of interaction is fitting for this?
which visual language (including typography) can be useful or fitting
for this?
what are you trying to accomplish through the interface you want to
design?
what type of medium is fitting for this?
we are designing for expats. we chose to focus on student expats, as that would give us a wider test group, making testing more accessible for us. moreover, students (especially art school students) would be able to give us more profound insight on our idea, since it is focused on emotion rather than information.
besides the standard informational relationship (expats can look at photos/videos and their descriptions and find more about them), the relationship would also be affective and inspiring. by watching the content given to you, an emotional reaction is triggered. this is what we hope to achieve through our interface.
we are interfacing a selection of videos from the open images website, which fit the different emotions we are trying to detect and then convey.
the interface would tap into the users' emotions and deepen them. moreover, the content could be viewed as inspiring by the users, in many ways (creatively, affectively, etc).
our interface would be based on a website, with camera detection/machine learning integrated within it. therefore, the user will interact by opening the website and showing something to the camera (a gesture, an object, this is to be decided). then, the user would interact with the website further by scrolling and viewing the content presented to them.
based on the previous question's answer, the medium we intend to use is a digital interactive publication, under the form of a website. this website will also (ideally) be connected to a projector, to further project the images onto walls/flat surfaces if the user desires to do so.
the visual languages that would be most fitting are camera recognition and imagery, as these represent the basis of our interface.
as explained in question four, we intend to tap into the users' emotions. whether they are happy, upset, angry or calm, we want to show them content that will resonate with their feelings and inspire them further.
